This week we explored the pathways paint takes when we use different materials to move it. We started off with exploring simple brush strokes, we have done this in the past but I sat with the children and we talked about the different lines we could make with the paint. We noticed how we could make straight lines, curvy lines and lines that connected to make different shapes. We then explored using marbles to make different lines. Children placed their papers in a clear bucket, then they poured some paint on their papers. Now came the marbles, many children decided to put multiple marbles in the bucket and began tipping the bucket back and forth causing the marbles to make many different lines on the page. The children excitedly tipped the bucket back and forth faster and faster causing many more lines to appear. Lastly we used white paint and black paper with Q-Tips. At first children were making dots with the Q-Tips but then I noticed a few beginning to use them like paint brushes, others shortly followed and created their own lines on the page. Children began talking about how they were able to make straight lines, curvy lines and shapes with the Q-Tips too. Through the process of using paint as a multimodal literacy children discovered that they could manipulate different materials to get a similar result (PPP, 2014, p.107).
This week we also said goodbye to Max and Evan as they move to Jasper room. We hope you guys have so much fun exploring in your new room. We also welcomed Taryn, June and Parker to this room. We are excited to have you join our room. Lastly we want to wish Jacob a happy 3rd Birthday. Thanks for bringing in the fun glasses and party hats for us to dance with. Have fun celebrating this weekend.
