Our mandate is to enhance the well-being of children and families through relevant and meaningful social supports.

Vision

Resilient families are strengthened and enriched by supportive and nurturing communities. Primrose Place Family Resource Centre aims to deliver programs that will help people develop independence, strengthen coping skills, increase resiliency, and enhance relationships and support networks. Throughout the year the Family Resource Centre offers family programs, workshops, special events and information referral.

Classroom on Wheels (C.O.W) – Summer program will consist of outdoor experiences set up for the children and parents to explore off the bus during the program. The facilitators will model literacy activities, lead the class in songs and share stories. The lending library will be available on the bus at the beginning and again at the end of class. Families have a chance to win quality books! In partnership with The Centre for Family Literacy.

Programs


Rhymes that Bind – Rhymes That Bind (10-week program) is an oral language development program that promotes positive parenting. Parents learn to enjoy rhymes, finger plays, songs and simple movement games with their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a supportive peer group. Ages: 0-6years & snack provided.

Mommy & Me – Moms of all walks of life & stages of motherhood are welcome to join us weekly. During this two hour session, hands on play experiences and parenting information will be provided by the family support coordinator. This is a great opportunity to meet other moms in the community and enjoy some meaningful play time with your child/ren. Once per month will be a fun activity or special presentation/workshop planned for you.

Books for Babies – Books for Babies is a four week program that encourages parents of infants between birth and 19 months to share books with their babies. It supports all families in developing early literacy and language experiences and promotes healthy family relationships.

C.O.W –  The C.O.W. (Classroom on Wheels) is a bookmobile that travels to various sites around the city. It’s a free drop-in program for parents and their children from birth to 6 years old. Come learn and explore fun new ways to add literacy activities into your daily lives. Trained family literacy facilitators provide information on the importance of early language development.

Social and Emotional Development – Occupational Therapist will focus on the social skills children need in order to develop confidence, positive self-esteem and to be successful throughout life. Coping, problem solving, and other social skills needed to develop positive relationships with others, will be discussed. Triple P – Join us for a four week discussion group on positive parenting. We will explore four big topics, managing fighting and aggression, dealing with disobedience, developing good bedtime routines and hassle free shopping with children. This workshop will go over parents’ concerns about their child’s behavior in the four related topics giving strategies to independently implement parenting plans that are generated in the two hour discussions. Goodbye Bedtime BattlesBedtimes can be a struggle for your child and family. Come to this free introductory workshop to help make bedtimes more peaceful. The workshop is for parents of children 6 months to 5 years of age. Join other parents and the pediatric Occupational Therapist (OT) to: learn more about the many different factors that influence a child’s sleep: routine, environment, and positive sleep-time associations. Challenging BehaviorsPlease join Alissa Hammond for a two part session on Challenging Behavior. Alissa Hammond is a Behavior Therapist. During the seminar Alissa will discuss behavior and what behavior is.  How to determine what the function of the behavior your child is demonstrating. We will explore and highlight several positive parenting strategies that will help to decrease the amount of challenging behavior that is seen within your day to day routine.
